Garowe Online - Home BAIDOA, Somalia June 19 (Garowe Online) - A senior army commander announced his resignation from the Somali military on Thursday, saying that Ethiopian officers are partly to blame for his decision. Col. Isse "Gaab" Hassan, deputy commander of the Somali army's 17th Brigade, told reporters that he resigned after being "unable to independently command" his troops. The Somali colonel said Ethiopian military officers at the Deynunay military camp had "interfered" with daily army operations. Col. Isse Gaab was also critical of the Somali government, saying that the government had "neglected" its troops for months. He indicated that Somali soldiers continue to face severe financial issues, while battling heavily-armed and well-motivated Islamist rebels.
