Demonstrators cry 'nuke Israel,' carry Hezbollah flags at U.S. anti-Israel rallies - Haaretz - Israel News : "Comparisons of Israel to Nazi Germany and signs depicting the Star of David as equal to the swastika have been a recurring feature at rallies in the United States protesting Operation Cast Lead, the Anti-Defamation League said on Monday. Though they lack the violence of their counterparts in the Middle East, protests held in the United States against Operation Cast Lead have included extreme rhetoric that wouldn't look out of place among the extremists of our region."

Ex-detainee of U.S. describes a 6-year ordeal - International Herald Tribune

Ex-detainee of U.S. describes a 6-year ordeal - International Herald Tribune : "LAHORE, Pakistan: When Muhammad Saad Iqbal arrived home here in August after more than six years in American custody, including five at the military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, he had difficulty walking, his left ear was severely infected, and he was dependent on a cocktail of antibiotics and antidepressants. In November, a Pakistani surgeon operated on his ear, physical therapists were working on lower back problems and a psychiatrist was trying to wean him off the drugs he carried around in a white, plastic shopping bag. The maladies, said Iqbal, 31, a professional reader of the Koran, are the result of a gantlet of torture, imprisonment and interrogation for which his Washington lawyer plans to sue the United States government."

Antiwar.com Blog · Why Not Kill All Gazans?

Antiwar.com Blog · Why Not Kill All Gazans? : "Reading the justifications that Israeli supporters are offering for the IDF assault, I don’t see any rationale being offered that would not justify killing everyone in Gaza. If a single rocket is fired from Gaza territory, does that mean that everyone living in that area has automatically forfeited their life? The New York Times notes today that Israeli supporters believe that “the issue of proportionality… is a false construct because comparing death tolls offers no help in measuring justice and legitimacy.” And we are obliged to accept whatever exonerations are offered by the IDF and their apologists. Max Blumenthal had an excellent piece on Huffington Post on the response to the initial IDF attacks on Gaza: Almost as soon as the first Israeli missile struck the Gaza Strip, a veteran cheering squad suited up to support the home team. “Israel is so scrupulous about civilian life,” Charles Krauthammer claimed in the Washington Post. E...

Reports: Khalilzad Ordered to Keep UN From Stopping Gaza War | News From Antiwar.com

Reports: Khalilzad Ordered to Keep UN From Stopping Gaza War | News From Antiwar.com : "Indeed, Israeli paper Haaretz is quoting sources at the UN who say Khalilzad had been ordered by the State Department to “torpedo any initiative proposed by the Arab bloc which is designed to grant the Security Council the status of an official arbiter that will have direct involvement with disentangling the Gaza crisis.” And a tangled mess it is. The civilian toll is soaring and Israel seems unwilling to even consider the possibility of ending the war on any terms at all. The United States has ruled out a return to the status quo, but seems perfectly content to continue with the new status quo that allows scores of Gazans to be killed on a daily basis and cheer Israel on as it continues its attacks. As a permanent UN Security Council member, the United States can keep the UN from condemning the killings forever if it wants to, and it seems that it wants to."
