Norway up in arms after author asserts Israel has lost right to exist By Assaf Uni, Haaretz Correspondent An article in a leading Norwegian newspaper last weekend lambasted Israel and Judaism and said Israel has lost its right to exist in its present form. Entitled "God's chosen people," the article by author Jostein Gaarder in Aftenposten is raising a storm in Norway. Gaarder, author of the book "Sophie's World," links the Israel Defense Forces' acts in Lebanon to Jewish history and foresees the coming dismantling of the state as it exists today, with the Jews becoming refugees. In an interview with Haaretz Gaarder said Thursday that he was misunderstood. "As John Kennedy declared in Germany 'I am a Berliner' ¬ I say now 'I am a Jew,'" he said. full report @ haaretz

What's Wrong With Calling Bush A Devil? By Jeff Cohen, AlterNet Posted on September 23, 2006, Printed on February 11, 2007 "Among those exercised (and exorcized) about Chavez' name-calling were some of the loudest name-callers in American media today -- including Rush Limbaugh and other rightwing talk hosts. Limbaugh tried to equate Chavez' remarks with the alleged Bush-bashing that comes from top U.S. Democrats. In case you've forgotten, it was Limbaugh who ridiculed Chelsea Clinton, then 13, as the "White House dog." full report @AlterNet

How Washington Goaded Israel Into War

August 26, 2006 by Stephen Zunes There is increasing evidence that Israel instigated a disastrous war on Lebanon largely at the behest of the United States. The Bush administration was set on crippling Hezbollah, the radical Shiite political movement that maintains a sizable block of seats in the Lebanese parliament. Taking advantage of the country's democratic opening after the forced departure of Syrian troops last year, Hezbollah defied U.S. efforts to democratize the region on American terms. The populist party's unwillingness to disarm its militia as required by UN resolution – and the inability of the pro-Western Lebanese government to force them to do so – led the Bush administration to push Israel to take military action. full report @ antiwar.com

General Ivashov: “International terrorism does not exist”

"As the current international situation shows, terrorism emerges where contradiction aggravate, where there is a change of social relations or a change of regime, where there is political, economic or social instability, where there is moral decadence, where cynicism and nihilism triumph, where vice is legalized and where crime spreads."...................... ......................"The use of the term “international terrorism” has the following goals: Hiding the real objectives of the forces deployed all over the world in the struggle for dominance and control; Turning the people’s demands to a struggle of undefined goals against an invisible enemy; Destroying basic international norms and changing concepts such as: aggression, state terror, dictatorship or movement of national liberation; Depriving peoples of their legitimate right to fight against aggressions and to reject the work of foreign intelligence services; Establishing the principle of renunciation to nat

August 3, 2006 Detainees G.I.’s Say Officers Ordered Killing of Young Iraqi Men By PAUL von ZIELBAUER TIKRIT, Iraq, Aug. 2 — Four soldiers from an Army combat unit that killed three Iraqi men in a raid in May testified Wednesday that they had received orders from superior officers to kill all the military-age men they encountered. The soldiers gave their accounts at a military hearing here to determine if four colleagues should face courts-martial on charges that they carried out a plan to murder the three Iraqis, whom they had seized after an assault on what they were told was an insurgent stronghold northwest of Baghdad. Their testimony gave credence to statements from two defendants that an officer had told their platoon to “kill all military-age males” in the assault, regardless of any threat they posed. That officer, Col. Michael Steele, has declined to testify, an unusual decision for a commander. full report @ fairuse War crime is committed in Iraq. But it is the leader who comm
