First there is Ethiopia. This nation, which is second only to Nigeria in African population, is landlocked. This frustrates its economic growth as its exports leave the nation mostly via air, which is extremely expensive, or via road which is very dangerous and unreliable. Ethiopia wants a seaport and has fought its neighbor Eritrea throughout the decades trying to seize the beautiful seaport capital of Asmara. The Eritreans have proven themselves to be fierce fighters and have resisted every attempt, with the last conflict ending in 2000. Lately, Ethiopia has turned its attention to war-torn Somalia which has a very attractive and extensive coastline on the Horn of Africa, viewing sea lanes to and from the Red Sea and Indian Ocean.

Currently, only the Bible can be used by witnesses when swearing or affirming truthful testimony.

They were barred from making the trip by airline and international flight rules, he said. Even in a state of war, Islam enjoins that one deals with the enemy nobly on the battlefield. Islam has drawn a clear line of distinction between the combatants and the non-combatants of the enemy country. As far as the non-combatant population is concerned such as women, children, the old and the infirm, etc., the instructions of the Prophet are as follows: "Do not kill any old person, any child or any woman"[1]. "Do not kill the monks in monasteries" or "Do not kill the people who are sitting in places of worship."[2] During a war, the Prophet saw the corpse of a woman lying on the ground and observed: "She was not fighting. How then she came to be killed?" Thus non-combatants are guaranteed security of life even if their state is at war with an Islamic state.

The Ethiopian government continued the heavy-handed suppression and punishment of any form of political dissent as reintroduced following the 2005 elections. While most international attention focused on events in Addis Ababa, security forces and civil officials continued campaigns of repression and brutality in many parts of the country. A day after Saddam's execution, a 10-year-old boy in Texas hanged himself from a bunk bed after watching a news report on the execution.
