Saudis' Big Deal for Anti-tank Missiles May be Meant to Help Syrian Rebels

Saudis' Big Deal for Anti-tank Missiles May be Meant to Help Syrian Rebels December 15, 2013 " Information Clearing House - " SCMP " - No one is expecting a tank invasion of Saudi Arabia anytime soon, but the kingdom just put in a huge order for US-made anti-tank missiles that has Saudi-watchers scratching their heads and wondering whether the deal is related to Riyadh’s support for the Syrian rebels. The proposed weapons deal, which the Pentagon notified Congress of in early December, would provide Riyadh with more than 15,000 Raytheon anti-tank missiles at a cost of over US$1 billion. According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ Military Balance report, Saudi Arabia’s total stockpile this year amounted to slightly more than 4,000 anti-tan

US/Patrick Cockburn: British Policy on Syria has Been Sunk, and Nobody Noticed

US/Patrick Cockburn: British Policy on Syria has Been Sunk, and Nobody Noticed December 15, 2013 " Information Clearing House - " The Independent " - The final bankruptcy of American and British policy in Syria came 10 days ago as Islamic Front, a Saudi-backed Sunni jihadi group, overran the headquarters of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) at Bab al-Hawa on the Syrian side of the border with Turkey. The FSA, along with the Syrian National Coalition, groups that the United States and Britain have been pretending for years are at the heart of Syrian military and political opposition, has been discredited. The remaining FSA fighters are in flight, have changed sides, or are devoting all their efforts to surviving the onslaught from jihadi or al-Qa’ida-linked brigades.

Mass murder in the Middle East is funded by our friends the Saudis

Mass murder in the Middle East is funded by our friends the Saudis December 10, 2013 " Information Clearing House - " The Independent " - - Donors in Saudi Arabia have notoriously played a pivotal role in creating and maintaining Sunni jihadist groups over the past 30 years. But, for all the supposed determination of the United States and its allies since 9/11 to fight "the war on terror", they have showed astonishing restraint when it comes to pressuring Saudi Arabia and the Gulf monarchies to turn off the financial tap that keeps the jihadists in business.

Obama Failed To Deliver Long-Overdue Apology To Mandela

Obama Failed To Deliver Long-Overdue Apology To Mandela December 11, 2013 " Information Clearing House - " This Cant Be Happening " - When Barack Obama, the first black president of America, delivered remarks Tuesday during a South African memorial service for that country’s first black president, he muffed a historic opportunity to right a grave wrong done by the American government – one that helped send Nelson Mandela to prison for nearly 30-years.

Where is Palestine’s Mandela?

Where is Palestine’s Mandela? The answer to my headline question is that he, Marwan Barghouti , is in an Israeli jail where he has been since his arrest in Ramallah by an IDF unit in 2002, after which, in 2004, he was sentenced to five life terms in prison. Some months before his arrest one of Israel’s security agencies tried and failed to assassinate him. A missile was fired at his bodyguard’s car and killed the bodyguard. (If the attempt on Barghouti’s life had succeeded, his killers would not have been brought to justice because as well as bulldozing Palestinian homes and stealing Palestinian land and water, Israel kills, murders, with impunity).

He was columnist for Business Week, Scripps Howard News Service, and Creators Syndicate. He has had many university appointment December 07, 2013 " Information Clearing House - The several days of organized protests in Ukraine are notable for the relative lack of police violence. Unlike in the US, Canada, Thailand, Greece, and Spain, peaceful protesters have not been beaten, tear gassed, water cannoned, and tasered by Ukrainian police. Unlike in Egypt, Palestine, and Bahrain, Ukrainian protesters have not been fired upon with live ammunition. The restraint of the Ukrainian government and police in the face of provocations has been remarkable. Apparently, Ukrainian police have not been militarized by US Homeland Security .

Finian Cunningham : UN, EU Subsidize French Crimes in Africa

Finian Cunningham : UN, EU Subsidize French Crimes in Africa UN, EU Subsidize French Crimes in Africa By Finian Cunningham December 08, 2013 " Information Clearing House -   French neo-colonialism in Africa is now official fact after the deployment this weekend of hundreds of its troops in the poverty-stricken Central Africa Republic. The manipulation of events and public opinion to justify this French intervention has all the garish choreography of a can-can dance troupe. Yet there is hardly a murmur of international protest at this audacious interference in a sovereign country. UN chief Ban Ki-moon has even praised France, and indeed there are some African leaders, such as Nigeria’s Goodluck Jonathan, who have welcomed the French initiative. How naive can these people be?
